WILLIAM F. HOLBROOK – Principal Partner
Mr. Holbrook is a recognized consumer packaged goods and retail veteran with more than 30 years experience in the marketing, advertising, food retail, and consulting fields. Mr. Holbrook started his career in the supermarket industry where, as an internal consultant and field operations executive, he turned around a $3 billion New York supermarket chain’s profitability. His leadership and expertise in operations and merchandising led to a complete organizational restructuring and merchandising strategy overhaul.
Mr. Holbrook moved into consumer-packaged goods via the beverage industry where he advanced from market planning manager to VP Marketing and VP Strategic Planning roles. His creative flair and innovative thinking led to more than 100 national creative awards, including an unprecedented two “Reggies” (the promotion industry’s “Oscar”) in one year. His leadership facilitated such internationally recognized advertising programs such as The Pepsi Challenge, the Bartles & Jaymes Front Porch, and the Coors Light Dancing Can and the Talking Can. His expertise was recognized by appointment to the Boards of Directors of the Promotion Marketing Association of America and the Point of Purchase Advertising Institute. Through involvement with the two associations, he instituted Integrated Marketing in the marketplace.
His strong organizational abilities led to the development of a nationally recognized in-house marketing services agency. This group won numerous creative awards while developing some of the most recognizable and effective merchandising and promotional programs.
Mr. Holbrook’s strategic planning prowess has led not only to a company’s profit turnaround, but also the spin off of two $8 billion organizations. In each case, he initiated the strategic groundwork.
Throughout his career, Mr. Holbrook has clearly recognized the value of employee contribution. In managing small and large groups his focus was on individual development. Many executives today were the beneficiaries of Mr. Holbrook’s unique management and leadership style. Having learned the value of people and teamwork while an officer of the United States Marine Corps, Holbrook extended that experience into full time practice. True to this inclination, Mr. Holbrook has spent several years in consulting for industry and individuals. His focus on assessing strengths and weaknesses, skills, personal qualities, experience and knowledge has led his clients to learn much more about what they had to offer the business, legal, educational, and government areas.
Mr. Holbrook’s professional success has been recognized in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the West, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry. He is a life member of the Reserve Officers’ Association and Navy League. He is also a member of the Marine Corps Association, the Marine Corps League, and the American Legion. He is a 25-year member of Mensa and a Life Loyal Sigma Chi. He graduated with a B.A. in History from Denison University and earned his M.B.A at Columbia University in New York.
Bob Walsh – Principal Partner
Bob brings over 25 years of extensive corporate experience in domestic and international executive management, marketing, and sales. His experience living and working overseas brings a unique breadth and depth to his knowledge of overall business and marketing. He brings team building, leadership, and has helped companies adapt to changing situations and markets.
After graduation from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Bob began his career as an engineer with Schlumberger, Ltd., a high technology corporation providing products and services to the oil and gas industry. He has managed divisions with P&L responsibility generating $30 Million in revenue. Constantly using his marketing and sales skills Bob advanced through his career becoming Director of Marketing for North American operations and ultimately Director of Marketing for the UK and Ireland. Utilizing his business and marketing skills, Bob was General Manager and President of two start-ups for European technology companies establishing businesses in the US and South America. He was successful in turning these operations into profitable ventures for the parent companies by focusing on continuous improvement of corporate performance, planning, and communication with a strategic vision.
As an executive management consultant, Bob has provided invaluable guidance to corporate management on business development, marketing, sales development, and start-up support. He has consulted for a diverse spectrum of companies from executive training to business development and automation in the commercial greenhouse industry. Successful assignments ranged from developing a restructuring plan for failing companies to the development of a business plan for a high tech start-up searching for capital funding from venture capitalists.
Through his technical background he has developed strong analytical skills, but Bob’s true passion is marketing and sales. He has worked successfully at all levels and is adept at mentoring and training. This blend allows Bob to help clients evaluate their options, develop strategies, and execute tactical campaigns to successfully market their strengths into new career opportunities. Bob’s broad experience in the corporate arena allows him to provide strong guidance and direction to executive clients.
Bob is very active in Rotary International, serving as District 5450 Membership Chair and is the President Elect Nominee for the Denver Mile High Rotary Club.
Don Garretson – Executive Partner
Donald E. “Don” Garretson
While helping folks with their careers as a partner in Eagle Wing Strategies, Don also currently works for Xcel Energy as a Pricing Consultant for new product initiatives concerning Conservation, Renewable Energy, Intelligent Electrical Networks (“Smart Grid”) and Distributed Generation. Don has recently authored papers on the implications of Cap & Trade legislation and Renewable Energy subsidies, served as a guest speaker on Energy Issues, and was one of the panelists on a recent Energy Forum conducted by the Colorado Independence Institute.
Previously, Don has served as Vice President of Business Development, Sales and Product Marketing for both large and emerging Companies. He has had worldwide responsibility; opening markets both domestically and internationally for eBusiness, IP and Wireless Services and Products. He has created and executed business plans for raising funds and creating new strategic directions for many kinds of companies. He has rolled out sales forces for start-ups, emerging companies, and for large companies in new markets. As an individual contributor, Don is a Product/Product Portfolio Costing and Pricing Expert, particularly for complex LOB and product structures.
Working at the “C” and Board of Directors level, and with technical experts and customer facing organizations, Don has been providing strategic leadership in complex business environments. His years of personal experience in business development, business decision processes, and supplier selection operations for high tech companies deliver to his clients the ability to address the tough questions and obtain results.
Don has helped companies deal with down sizing, right sizing, and restructuring and the associated change management to emerge successfully. He has a strong commitment to ethics, both personally and in business, particularly with regard to HR policies and the importance of trust, commitment and honesty regarding the unwritten social contract that exists between businesses, their employees and society.
Following his graduation from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Economics, Don served as an officer in the US Army. After retiring his commission to pursue doctoral studies at the University of Washington, Don began his civilian career as a major subcontract negotiator for the Boeing Company. Don’s career includes several years with AT&T and the Bell Operating Companies where he served as a costing and pricing expert and sales executive prior to employing his skills with emerging companies.
Don is active in Rotary International, has been a college instructor and previously served on New Hampshire Governor Shaheen’s Telecommunications Planning & Development Advisory Committee.
Lee Mulberry – Vice President Business Development
Lee brings over 25 years of Executive level experience to Eagle Wing Strategies. This includes highly successful positions in marketing, sales, market development, executive relations, executive management, consulting and as a college instructor. Lee is a master at accelerating his teams to bring in results; he sees clearly the strengths in every team member and plays them to their strengths. Lee has a deep appreciation for people and their contributions to the success of organizations.
When it comes to developing strategies for complex opportunities, Lee knows exactly how to organize the resources and to develop the game plan for winning the business. Lee has used his finely tuned networking skills along with his unique abilities in connecting with people to drive hundreds of millions of dollars of growth for the companies he has worked for.
These qualities are evidenced by the secession of jobs with superior results, beginning with 13 years at a telecommunications equipment manufacturer with his last assignment being VP of OEM Sales. In this capacity he grew the business from $60 million to $130 million in 2 years by using resources more strategically and with no additional sales people. As VP Domestic Sales for AT&T Power Systems with over $450 million in annual sales he exceeded quota each year. As a Principal for IBM Global Services he brought in over $60 million of consulting business in the telecommunications sector. As a senior business development executive with a software firm he expanded their business significantly in the higher education market as well as in the corporate training marketplace.
While achieving success in the business community Lee also spent 15 years as a part-time college instructor, teaching subjects such as Organizational Behavior, Marketing, Management, Change Management and Sales Management.
Lee’s finely tuned organizational skills combined with his ability to read and connect with people as well as his highly successful business experience are perfectly suited to helping executives with their career planning and decisions.
Lee is also active in the community; serving on the Board of the Denver Mile High Rotary Club, served on the Civil Service Board for West Metro Fire and Rescue and works with various other civic organizations. He also coached and refereed soccer for many years.
